Summer SkinCare Fun

IMG_9777

Summer is one of my favorite seasons! I enjoy the time I get to spend with my family and friends and all the cool things we get to do around Cleveland. While I enjoy being out and about I also take time to make sure I am taking care of my skin. To keep my skin clear and blemish free I rely on a few products to keep my skin happy.

Pictured above are my favorite things right now;

  1. Aveeno Clear Complexion helps remove any traces of makeup left on my face, I use this daily and love that it is oil-free and non-drying so far this is the only product that helps my sensitive skin.
  2. Shea Moisture African Black Soap Clarifying Mud Mask, once a week I like to apply a facial mask, my favorite at the moment is this mud mask which smells amazing and helps brighten my skin and also contains Tea Tree Oil which helps fade scars and treat acne. The best part? I only paid $2 for this pack and I got multiple uses out of it. To keep the pack from drying out after you open it store it in a plastic baggie.
  3. See that weird looking Pink thing in the picture above, that’s my favorite Silicone Facial Cleaning Brush. I purchased this off Amazon,  it comes with a case to store it in as well as a USB charger once the battery drains, what I love is that I have had it for 2 months now and I have yet to charge it! this is what I use to really work my Aveeno Cleanser into my skin and it has multiple speeds for you to choose from. It fits perfectly in my hands and is easy to clean. I spent less than $20 for this and love how smooth my skin feels after I use it.
  4. DermaRoller– I use a dermaroller every week or 2 weeks to help rejuvenate my skin,  and reduce the dark circles under my eyes. At first I was scared to use a DermaRoller but after watching  countless YouTube videos on how to properly roll my face and seeing the benefits I am happy with my purchase.

If you are looking for some new products to add to your skincare routine give these a try everything is under $20, let me know how they worked for you!

Shower Cleaning Hack

bath-1937412_960_720

A cool trick I learned when I moved in my first apartment was to use shower gel when I showered, instead of bar soap because bar soap contains fat you’re more likely to get a ring around the tub! Whenever I’m not in the mood to clean the tub after I always use shower gel. I recommend buying all natural ones like Dr. Bronners or Aveeno Daily Moisturizer Body Wash.

Wine Recommendation

Who doesn’t love wine? How about a great tasting Moscato that is only 4.00? My wine recommendation this week is for Winking Owl California Moscato, it is an 8% light-bodied sweet wine that I can always wow people with. I love pairing it with cheeses and spicy foods. I found this brand at the grocery store Aldi’s.  Winking owl has other great wines including a nice chardonnay and Merlot… and they are all $4! This a great brand to try out that won’t put a dent in your wallet.

Turmeric Tea

I have had a slight obsession with turmeric for quite sometime. I love using it in facial masks, and in my food. I love the great flavor and it’s health benefits, it is a great anti-inflammatory and is believed to help fight cancer. While I was at EarthFare I picked up some turmeric powder to use for my beauty routine and food.

I used some to make a turmeric tea, it has a spicy sweet flavor that reminds me of a chi tea and if you like golden milk- which is a trendy drink that uses turmeric and coconut milk, you will probably like this recipe too.

IMG_9172You Will Need:

1 Cup Water

1/4 Teaspoon Turmeric

1 teaspoon of organic honey ( Or more if you love honey like me)

1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon Sugar

Pinch of black pepper

Pinch of chili powder  (optional)

How to make Tea:IMG_9174

  1. Bring 1 cup of water to a boil
  2. Add boiling water to mug of choice
  3. Stir in all spices
  4. Adjust spices accordingly to taste.

*This was my first time using Mccormick cinnamon sugar, I did like the taste but I did not like how it formed at the top of the tea, it did not dissolve very well and next time I make the tea I will just use brown sugar and cinnamon instead. Comment below if you have any turmeric recipes!

Strawberry lavender Lemonade

I’m all for making great drinks, especially when they serve a purpose, According to various sites including Healthy Holistic Living  lavender helps ease stress, eliminate migraines and  depression. I have suffered from migraines since I hit puberty, I currently take Imitrex but I am always on the hunt for other pain alternatives. I came across the recipe for lavender lemonade on Facebook and decided to make my own version. I headed to EarthFare where I purchased organic lavender buds, organic lemons, and  strawberries. I did want the whole lavender plant but it was not in stock at the time, since I was just using the lavender to infuse the lemonade the buds worked just fine.

Lavender lemonade Materials

  • 1 cup sugar or stevia or honey
  • 2 cups water for infusion
  • 6 lemons
  • Pack of Strawberries
  • Tea Kettle or pot to boil water
  • Infusion Pitcher
  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cup
  • 2-3 cups of cold water

Steps

  1. Bring 2 cups of water to boil
  2. Add lavender buds and your choice of sugar to mixing bowl
  3. Once water has boiled slowly add to lavender buds and sweetener. Let mix infuse covered for 10-20 minutes
  4. Cut up lemons and squeeze out juice- this can be poured directly into pitcher
  5. Cut up strawberries make sure they are thin slices add to pitcher’s infuser
  6. Pour lavender water into pitcher
